ARTIST BIO
My name is Mike D. I am of no relation to the Beastie Boy. I'm a New Yorker by way of Chicago and currently reside in the borough of Queens. I began my artistic journey following a disruption of my worldview and philosophy of life after being part of the invasion of Iraq in 2003. I picked up my first DSLR at a NYU veterans photography workshop. Photography became my therapy. I primarily shoot with a 5D Mark IV and have done so across 48 states and 45 countries. I have worked as a freelance cinematographer on indie features films and helped create a short film called "Tango on the Balcony," a film about a veteran dealing with PTSD in NYC. I've never worked a professional photography gig, but have worked for NBC, Universal, BBC, Listerine, Roadtrip Nation, and several indie production companies on film projects. If you have made it this far, first, thank you for your time. If you know of a veteran struggling with PTSD or other combat related illness, toss them a camera. It might change their life.
